Belmont comes in third, just because of the priciness. I'm glad that someone else mentioned that Jinx's is always closed. I've literally gone by there 5 times (it's across town for me) and it's NEVER open. They don't answer their phone either.hoosjonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16017967641262880983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089417278050700781.post-11956445613606197132009-10-14T00:13:28.465-04:002009-10-14T00:13:28.465-04:00i shall keep that inn mind. i'll pick up some...i shall keep that inn mind. i'll pick up some onion rings while i'm there.johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08286579949858022863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089417278050700781.post-45094366919937389522009-10-14T00:07:23.726-04:002009-10-14T00:07:23.726-04:00ahem *clears throat in preparation*...."i wis...ahem *clears throat in preparation*...."i wish they all could be like smokin' pi-i-i-i-i-g" (sung to the tune of "california girls" by the beach boys)

oh...before i began eating ethically, i do recall that sams club had some frozen carnitas that, for being processed and frozen, were damn good. worth checking out if you can sneak in with someone who has a membership.pleasurefromthethornshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03187653159402779202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089417278050700781.post-6952014100797758692009-10-08T17:25:50.835-04:002009-10-08T17:25:50.835-04:00Thanks for the comment, Kelly. I do commend Belmont BBQ for not saucing their meat ahead of time, and you're right, I will certainly go back, because it's very good meat (and it really does make for great tacos).

I think there are a couple of BBQ places around the area that I haven't tried yet. There's one in Ruckersville called Hog Heaven which I hear is good. There's also Blue Ridge Pig in Nellysford/Wintergreen on Rt. 151. I have been there and it's very good.

Thanks for the tip about Sam's. Now I've got one more reason to get a membership.johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08286579949858022863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5089417278050700781.post-30175617805145641502009-10-08T13:57:57.979-04:002009-10-08T13:57:57.979-04:00This is a good review, very honest, and it's n...This is a good review, very honest, and it's not like you won't still eat there (by default you'll go back because there aren't a lot of choices for BBQ), you just don't prefer his sauce. Living in Alabama for 6 years I felt like I was surrounded by places that did good BBQ. My favorite is Johnny Rays. They cook their bbq every single day (which I'm sure is a lot of trouble) but made the food amazing and not dependent on the sauce. In Charlottesville I haven't found a bbq place that doesn't smother the meat in sauce. I've been disappointed with all of it... Big Jims, Jinx's (that always seems to be closed) and Belmont BBQ. PS: I think those onion rings, along with the majority of his other pricey offerings are just from Sams.Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13453125184018973868noreply@blogger.com
